Preparation for Aerated Compost Tea Application

Mow and water your yard a day or two before your compost tea application

No need to rake leaves, they will make a great first meal for your newly arriving soil biology

Tips for a Healthy Lawn

Water less often, but for a longer durations.  This encourages plants to develop deep roots.

Don't bag your grass clippings, they will serve as mulch and a natural fertilizer.

Fertilize only with organic fertilizers, synthetic fertilizers will often kill the biology that is working so hard to bring your a healthy landscape.

Aerated Compost Tea Program

In order to achieve the benefits of adding compost tea to your landscape it is important to implement a program designed to offer continuous renewal and food for the organisms  Our programs consists of four quarterly applications and spring organic fertilization.

Why do I need a program?

In Texas we live on a relatively thin soil layer underlain by massive limestone.  The original landscape here in Central Texas is quite different that what we are trying to achieve in our gardens.  Whereas, a native landscape would haves some grasses, Mesquite Trees, Oak trees, most of us desire a more lush and varied landscapes.  In order to achieve this we must condition the soil to support the more diverse and unique plants.  Thus we add additional biology to the landscape, undoing the negative effects of development and pushing our landscape forward to an even more fertile environment than before.

There are two goals of the program:  Fortify and Feed

Fortify:  Aerated Compost Tea adds life to your landscape, by extracting the beneficial organism from compost and adding them to you soil and foliar (leaf) surfaces.  They both protect the plant from disease and pests and provide nutrients to the plants.  However, the organisms are sensitive to chemicals and pollution.  Chlorinated water, automobile pollution, pesticides, herbicides and heavy foot traffic are among the most common damaging factors.  In order to maintain and, over time, significantly increase the population of the biology it is important to periodically fortify the current biology with additional organisms.

Feed:  Each application of compost tea supplies enough food to last the organisms at least three months.  The foods include humic acid and simple sugars.  By applying the tea quarterly the microorganisms will have a consistent food supply, allowing them to multiply and more efficiently cycle the nutrients in your landscape.  In addition we offer a Spring Application of  Hydrolisized Fish.  This high nitrogen liquid provides a boost to you plants when they are in a period of heavy growth.
